Patricia Neal
Actor
b. 1926 · USA
Neal trained at Northwestern University and studied acting in New York before breaking through on Broadway as a teenager, quickly building a reputation as one of the stage's most promising young dramatic actresses before Hollywood came calling.
She delivered the film's famous command to a killer robot — 'Klaatu barada nikto' — a phrase later Oscar winner Neal called the strangest line she ever had to say with a straight face. She went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actress a little over a decade later for Hud.
She later survived a series of severe strokes in the 1960s that she fought back from to continue her acting career, a recovery widely covered at the time and later dramatized in a television film. Her early genre role remains one of the most quoted lines in science fiction film history.
