Kerry Conran

Conran studied film at the California Institute of the Arts before spending years teaching himself digital compositing and animation techniques largely alone, working a day job while developing his passion project in his spare time.

He spent roughly four years animating a black-and-white proof-of-concept short essentially alone on a home computer before it became the basis for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, his only theatrical feature to date. He had no prior professional directing experience.

Despite the film's technical influence on later virtual-production filmmaking, he has not directed another theatrical feature since, making it a singular, self-contained achievement in his career.
