David trained at Juilliard's rigorous drama program before working steadily in New York theater, film and television through the early 1980s, building a reputation for commanding presence and a uniquely resonant speaking voice well before his genre-film breakthrough.

Owner of the best voice in genre cinema, he is a veteran of two Carpenter classics — including a six-minute alley brawl that refuses to end.
