Trevor Jones

Trevor Jones

Composer

b. 1949 · South Africa

Jones studied at London's Royal College of Music before building a career scoring British television and film through the 1970s and 80s, developing a versatile style suited to both intimate drama and large-scale genre work.

He scored Dark City's eternal night with heavy, brooding orchestral movements that swell each time the city 'tunes' — music for architecture rearranging itself while the whole world sleeps. A South African-born composer with a long career scoring British and American film, he had already worked on a wide range of genre and prestige productions.

His brooding, orchestral approach to the film gave its constantly-reshaping city a genuine sense of dread, one of the more distinctive scores of the late 1990s science fiction revival.
