Tim Miller
Director
b. 1970 · USA
Miller began his career in visual effects and title-sequence design before co-founding the effects studio Blur Studio, gradually building enough of a reputation in animation and effects work to eventually break through as a feature director himself.
Fresh off reinventing Deadpool, Miller came aboard Dark Fate at James Cameron's personal invitation to drag the franchise back to its R-rated, unsentimental roots. Cameron specifically sought him out after being impressed by the tonal risk-taking of his prior work, a rare instance of the franchise's original creator personally recruiting a successor.
The two clashed over certain creative decisions during production, disagreements Miller has discussed candidly in interviews since the film's release, describing a collaborative but occasionally difficult working relationship with the director he'd long admired.
