Louis Barron

Barron trained in economics rather than music, and it was his wife Bebe's family gift of a professional tape recorder that led the couple into experimental electronic sound art years before either had any formal film-scoring assignment.

With his wife Bebe, he built custom electronic circuits from scratch and recorded their squeals and hums as they burned out — the source material for the first entirely electronic film score. The couple had no formal composing background in the traditional sense, working instead as electronic-music experimentalists inspired by cybernetics theory.

Their work predates the invention of the synthesizer as a commercial instrument by roughly a decade, making their score one of the earliest and most technically improvisational in film history.
