Loken began her career as a fashion model before transitioning into acting through television guest roles in the late 1990s, a background that gave her an unusually striking physical presence for a major franchise villain role.
She is the franchise's first female Terminator, the T-X — cast partly because she could sell both runway-model menace and genuine physical threat in the same shot. A former fashion model, she trained extensively in martial arts and firearms handling ahead of production to perform much of the character's action work herself.
The role remains her most widely recognized to date, and the T-X design was created specifically to visually contrast with Schwarzenegger's more overtly mechanical T-800, giving the sequel a genuinely new kind of visual threat.
