Born Tom Holkenborg, he began his career as an electronic musician and DJ in the Netherlands before transitioning into film scoring, bringing a heavily percussive, industrial-electronic sensibility distinct from more traditional orchestral action scores.

The Dutch composer and Hans Zimmer collaborator gave Dark Fate a pounding, industrial score built to sit alongside his earlier Mad Max: Fury Road work. That prior, widely acclaimed score made him a natural fit for the franchise's own return to gritty, stripped-down action under Tim Miller's direction.

He has continued to build one of the more distinctive composing careers in modern action cinema, known for blending live orchestral recording with heavily processed electronic production.
