Jonathan Pryce
Actor
b. 1947 · UK
Pryce trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and built a celebrated British stage career, winning a Tony Award on Broadway before Terry Gilliam cast him in one of his most demanding film roles.
He played Sam Lowry, a low-level bureaucrat whose escapist fantasies of flight collide with a totalitarian state that runs on paperwork, ducts, and quiet cruelty. A respected British stage actor with a Tony Award to his name, he brought a wide-eyed, dreamlike quality to the role.
It remains one of the defining performances of his early film career, and he has continued a prolific stage and screen career across prestige drama and blockbuster franchises since.
