Edward Shearmur

Shearmur studied at Cambridge University before moving into film scoring in the 1990s, building a career across a wide range of genres in both British and American film and television.

He scored Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow with unashamed, straight-faced 1930s adventure-serial grandeur, matching the film's total commitment to its pulp source material. His score deliberately emulated the romantic, brassy sound of classic 1930s adventure serials.

That commitment to the source material's tone rather than a more contemporary blockbuster style became one of the score's most distinctive qualities.
