Denis Villeneuve

Villeneuve studied film production at the Université du Québec à Montréal before building a career in Québécois cinema, gradually gaining international attention through a run of acclaimed, tense dramas in the early 2010s.

The Québécois director handed the impossible job of sequelizing Blade Runner delivered a slow, monumental follow-up that treated the original's questions with complete seriousness. He built his reputation with films like Prisoners and Sicario before Ridley Scott personally selected him to direct the long-gestating sequel.

He then went on to Dune, cementing his reputation as one of the leading directors of large-scale, philosophically serious science fiction filmmaking working today.
