Bebe Barron

Barron studied music formally before marrying Louis and co-founding one of the first private electronic-music studios in the United States, working at the intersection of avant-garde composition and emerging cybernetics theory.

Co-creator of Forbidden Planet's groundbreaking score, she was credited only for "electronic tonalities" because the composers' union didn't yet have a category for what she and Louis had invented. She and her husband ran an experimental electronic-music studio in New York years before this project.

Her contribution went largely uncredited by industry standards of the time despite being equally responsible for the score, an imbalance later music historians have worked to correct in re-examining the work.
