She played Altaira, whose innocent flirtations with the visiting crew unknowingly trigger her father's monster — a performance that made her science fiction's first great genre ingenue. A former child model and television actress, she brought a knowing warmth to a character whose innocence is central to the plot's psychological horror.

The role remains her most iconic, and she continued a long career in film and television afterward, including a later starring role in one of television's earliest action-detective series.
